A Hundred Chinese Workers are cheated into Working Illegally in Libya

According to a report on August 9 by the Chinese newspaper Global Times, one hundred and five Chinese workers were employed by the Chinese company Guosheng Construction Labor Services Ltd to work illegally in Ghat, Libya. They complained to the Global Times that the wages they have received are much lower than what was in their contract, and that they work in a deplorable situation and have not been allowed to make their cases public. At one point some of them stopped work, but then they were threatened with being sent to jail if they did not resume work.
The report hinted that the company has no license to employ workers to work overseas. It also quoted the responses of the Chinese embassy in Libya to the case as saying that "The best way to solve the problem is to allow the company to have a private consultation with the workers. That some workers have adopted radical measures such as stopping work and making a fuss to make their voices heard, is simply inappropriate. The embassy will try its best to protect the workers as a vulnerable group, but they must also respect local laws here."
